Not before it is documented. A damaged bicycle may tell part of the story — its frame, wheels, brakes, components, and impact damage could help explain how the collision occurred.

The same principle applies to helmets, clothing, lights, cameras, and electronic ride data. Some evidence also disappears on its own: surveillance footage can be overwritten and road conditions can change.
