Michigan generally requires a Notice of Intent before a medical malpractice action is commenced. A plaintiff ordinarily must wait at least 182 days after providing that notice before filing suit.

The law provides different timing in certain circumstances. Because these pre-suit steps run alongside the filing deadline, they are part of why early review matters.
