Lakeshore Legal Aid provides free civil legal services across Southeast Michigan and runs the Counsel and Advocacy Law Line, the statewide number many other programs refer callers to. Its work includes housing, family safety and benefits matters, with specific attention to older adults and to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Call the new-client intake number. You will be asked about your county, your income, your household and the legal problem, and the answer about whether they can help usually comes from that conversation.
Help ranges from advice over the phone to full representation, and which one you get depends on the matter and on capacity. Advice is still worth having.
