Legal aid

Legal Services of Eastern Michigan

Civil legal assistance for eligible residents of Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair and Huron counties, from the Flint office.

Run Point.

What they do

Legal Services of Eastern Michigan provides free civil legal help to people who qualify. The Flint office covers Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair and Huron counties.

How to start

Call the intake line rather than arriving in person. Intake screens for income, household size and the type of legal problem, and it is the only route into the program.

If they cannot take it

The program may refer you onward to the statewide Counsel and Advocacy Law Line, which handles advice and brief service for callers whose matter does not fit a local office. Ask about it before you end the call.

Free to those who qualify. Eligibility depends on income, household size, the legal issue and the program's current capacity.
