Michigan Attorney General Consumer Protection Team

Takes complaints about businesses, scams and unfair practices, and refers matters to the agency that regulates them.

Run Point.

What they do

The Consumer Protection Team collects complaints from Michigan residents about businesses, scams and unfair or deceptive practices. Patterns in those complaints are what drive the Attorney General's enforcement work.

When it is useful

File when a business has taken your money, misrepresented what it was selling, or is running something that looks like a scam. Filing also matters when the amount is small, because the complaint joins a record even when your own case is not pursued.

What it will not do

The Attorney General represents the people of Michigan, not you personally. A complaint is not a lawsuit and it does not get your money back on its own.

The Attorney General does not represent individual consumers in every dispute. A complaint is not a substitute for a claim in court.
