Michigan Assigned Claims Plan

Runs the Michigan Assigned Claims Plan, which assigns a carrier when no policy applies to a crash.

Run Point.

What it is

Michigan no-fault benefits normally come from a specific policy: yours, a relative's, or the one covering the vehicle. Sometimes none of them applies. The Assigned Claims Plan exists for exactly that gap. It assigns an insurance company to handle the claim so that someone is responsible for paying benefits.

When it is useful

Pedestrians and bicyclists hit by an uninsured driver, passengers in an uninsured vehicle, and people whose own insurer has denied that any policy covers them are the usual situations.

What to know first

Assigned claims have their own filing deadline, and it is short. Benefits under the plan are also capped in ways an ordinary policy is not. If you think this applies to you, do not sit on it.

The Assigned Claims Plan is a last resort, available only when no other no-fault policy applies. It has its own filing deadline and its own benefit limits.
