An ombudsman is an advocate for the resident, not for the facility and not for the state. They take complaints about care in licensed nursing homes, homes for the aged and adult foster care homes, and they work to resolve them.
Call when a concern has already been raised with the facility and nothing changed, when a resident's rights are being ignored, or when a family is being stonewalled about what is happening to their relative.
The program is organised by county rather than through one statewide number. Use the Find Your Ombudsman tool on their site to get the right local contact.
An ombudsman resolves complaints. That is not the same thing as a negligence claim against a facility, and one does not rule out the other.
Ombudsmen advocate for residents and help resolve complaints. They do not provide legal representation and cannot bring a claim for you.
