The Lawyer Referral Service is run by the State Bar of Michigan. You describe your legal problem and where you live, and the service gives you the name of a Michigan attorney who handles that kind of matter in your area.
Use it when your situation falls outside what this firm handles, or when you want a private attorney and do not know where to start. It is also the sensible first call if you are not certain your problem is a legal one at all.
An administrative fee applies for the initial consultation, and the consultation is time-limited. Being referred to an attorney is not the same as being taken on as a client. The attorney still decides whether to accept the case, and you still decide whether to hire them.
A $25 administrative fee applies for an initial consultation of up to 25 minutes. The fee is waived for personal injury plaintiffs, tenants with urgent housing problems, Social Security claimants and workers' compensation claimants.
